Officials order removal of temporary stalls in Bagbazar

Authorities of the Shyampukur police station today ordered the removal of temporary stalls from Bagbazar Bata More. The officials are also checking whether the footpath shops are not encroaching on the road. Officials were seen marking the area with black tape.

This comes amid the illegal hawker eviction drive by the KMC. Last week, CM Mamata Banerjee gave a month to all hawkers and said stalls will not be demolished and they must communicate among themselves locally and clear the roads. She has asked the administration to start surveying, rehabilitating, and reconsidering things for hawkers.

The encroachment removal drive has been undertaken by the civic body to remove illegal hawkers and vendors. Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and the city police together bulldozed illegal structures in various areas in the city that have been narrowing down the path for people.
